Beautiful Distraction

Minding my business in a coffeeshop
In a corner I sit sipping a cup
Check the phone for a notification
Hope your name pops up in a quotation

A report to write, duty to fulfill
Endless edits, but the mind is not still
Laugh at old jokes remembered at random
A moment, a smile, a story, a storm

Numbers and letters fly out of the screen
The heart’s a-flutter, sees another scene
Holding a hand on a drive to somewhere
On the edge of a cliff, I remember

Nuanced thoughts of life, love, and attraction
Yes, you are my beautiful distraction
