Prompted: Spelled Differently

Today's writing prompt: A magical mishap shrinks your character for twenty four hours. How does the day go? - - - - - o 0 o - - - - - Mini Magical Mishap ( b y  J u c y ) “Beet root, potato peel, onion bulbs... “Abigail!” her mother’s voice interrupted her thoughts. “Yes, Mom?” “What are you doing in here? Are you still trying to concoct a vaccine for this virus?” “I’m close, Mom; I can feel it!” “Why don’t you leave that to the scientists and the medical community. You are 17; it’s not your responsibility to solve the world’s problems.” “But I’m on to something, Mom. I really believe this would do the trick.” “Okay. Just be careful that you don’t hurt yourself in this basement.” “I will, Mom.” Abigail continued mixing the ingredients she gathered from her grandmother’s garden and the chemical compounds she took from her school’s chemistry lab. She knew that she’d be expelled if her teacher ever found out; but once she finds the cure for COVID-19, they will forget about her little ...

- - - - -  T H U N D E R - - - - - ( by Mike ) Zeus indeed commanded it Compelling all to bow A deafening sound, a rumble What do we do right now? Olympus dwellers exclaim And mortals choose parlay The father of the deities  Had something else to say Elsewhere, far, however The Son of Asgard tries Without a heavy hammer Who knows how he will fly Preceding or proceeding It ever will be heard When Odinson approaches The skies produce one word Perhaps another wielder Of wind and rain and hale Can aptly demonstrate here Where others ably fail Demanding eyes to witness And ears to hear the peals Let Miss Ororo Munroe Show you the real deal But really, as it turns out The noise, the boisterous din Brought stormy clouds and rainfall And joys come from within 'Cause Willy's favorite product Got soaked and melted, flowed Into a chocolate river Confectioners explode - - - - - o 0 o - - - - - - - - - - T H U N D E R - - - - - ( by Jucy ) A deep, throaty rumble in the night sky That slowl...

Beast of Inordinate Circumstance

Image
tones of grief, epitome of shame half-wrought notes : apology or blame throw the stone — regret — into the deep on the edge, the onset very steep share the baggage, every single weight but unload and shear before too late silent burden hears a lot and more scurrying like hares upon the floor steal the thunder and obscure the light slip them tales of fake and frigid might wipe the board clean; write it on a slate stale or recent; do not hesitate smile , go on like everything’s afloat keep it neat; there’s slime under the moat don’t be dour, sour from these limes   miles to go; there will be sleeping time

iudicium

Image
Feel free to judge me Go on, expose your heart Point your righteous finger If you really want to start Make your estimations Conjecture all you like In the end, it’s not my vocals Blaring on the mic Feel free to judge me You’re perfect, I presume Your character’s in order Is what I would assume Or maybe check the mirror For specks inside your eye Don’t worry ‘bout my vision I take care of my sight Feel free to judge me But keep it to yourself If I do not solicit Then I don’t need your help Respect is quite essential Like distancing and masks If I need your wisdom I would surely ask Feel free to judge me Or better yet, judge your own Look at your own demeanor And if at all you’ve grown I’m not your goodwill project Can’t read my heart and mind You do not know my story So don’t be rude; be kind Feel free to judge me I’m beloved by my Lord He will rightly defend me Be careful with your sword Do not do unto others What’s not been done to you...

Pandemonium

Image
Don’t think about it too much Just write your thoughts on the page as they come You know they’ve been piled up, scattered all over, and cooped up in your brain Let them out; let your mind breathe; give your thoughts more space Acknowledge everything that has been and release them Give your emotions exposure to the light of day Who knows what might come your way once you do You’ve thought about how much you’ve missed going to movies With friends like Archie, Mike, or one of the men you’ve mentored You’ve pondered about life perhaps not ever going back to what it used to be Certain that you do not want to revert to some of the old things Unsure of letting the others go You’ve thought about the utmost importance of times of solitude Especially when spent in the presence of God You’ve realized even more how valuable face-to-face interactions with people are The priceless moments you’ve invested into the lives of others way before all this happened And the future tim...

Matka, Muter, Ammee...

Image
Here's to all the ones Who are up before the sun And hides in the storage room To get some paperwork done Who cooks for hours on weekends And goes to a hundred playdates Feeds the baby while on a Zoom meeting While corporate stuff she delegates Here's to those who thinks About everyone all day Looking after their affairs So not a one is in disarray She smiles as she remembers The tiny faces in her locket For whom she says her prayers Alone in her secret closet Here's to you, Mommy Nanay, Maman, Makuahine Aiti, Maji, Okaasan Matka, Muter, Ammee Words do not suffice Nor flowers, hugs, or chocolate For all you are and do And the love you pull out of your pocket So put on your stilettos Sneakers or dancing shoes Some mascara, a red lippy A dress in the shade of chartreuse Or put your feet up on the sofa Binge-watch a show for hours Or read all day in the garden Today you won't need your superpowers ...

Lonely Glove

Image
Random A BREAKFAST TRAY of ACHE COMPEL TRUTHFUL conversation IRRITATING photos in a CAMERA URGE a DEVILISH interpretation HANG a LONELY GLOVE A POSSIBLE conclusion WRETCHED PURPLE hearts DO  hunger for consolation KINDLY  BEHOLD  the  HEAT caused LUCKY,  apology is enough compensation Anyone who loves words and puzzles would enjoy this. Writing poetry out of a set of random words would challenge your ability to find structure out of haphazardness and think outside the box. This is my first attempt. (I forgot to take a screenshot of the words but I highlighted them within the text.) There are probably a number of other sites but I used the random word generator of Wordcounter.net for this. It is really fun! It's a great mental activity and it would definitely bring out your creative juices while you're quarantined at home with your family because of the covid-19 (which we're all praying would die...

Remind Me Again

The seeping, the draining of every shade Turned lifeless and dull as these memories fade Opaqueness invading what once was so clear Come, tell me again what I'm longing to hear Remind me what red is and what it foretells "It indicates danger and anger as well. Red runs through our veins; it's the color that bleeds. It colors our hearts and our passionate deeds." And what about blue? What does that color mean? "It's loyalty, honesty, calmness; serene. It colors the sky, the sea, and one's trust. And sometimes it paints sadness, too: it's a must." I'm feeling elated with all that you say So, tell me some more; I think we've got all day I'm curious of yellow and what it might spell Enlighten me further; you're doing so well "The yellows are cheerful and bring such delight; They introduce happiness, joy, and insights. These hues spell out sunshine, and laughter, and mirth But...

One Man Debate

Image
One man debate An argument defined Hashing out the issue With me, myself and I One desires loneness The other, company Conflict now arising The third one, symmetry One man debate An argument prolonged Escalating problems In speech, in prose, in song One highlighting drama The other, tragedy Channeling the Greeks now The third sees comedy One man debate An argument to cease Locked within his own self And his soliloquies One solution: counsel Another: time and space The other: flip a new page And run at his own pace

Apocalypse

Image
Dark and ominous, a black hole between the lines Happiness sucked out, in a vacuum hope declines Chaos and mayhem, a star bleeds letters and cries Desires forgotten, all options demoralize The sun collapses scorching the words on a page Old plans scribbled out, dreams abandoned in a cage A new moon waxes, oblivious to changing times It wanes in stages and clings to a few old rhymes Troubles multiply, asteroids belted with fears Confusion collects, stories of pain inked in tears Planets misalign, mourn the death of gravity A missing chapter, an incomplete rhapsody Galaxies of hurt burst in a heap of verses Faith in the future, locked and buried in hearses A comet blazes, burns out like forgotten phrases The curtain closes, a world that left no traces Books left unwritten, empty paper cuts the sky Blank parchments scatter dust clouds, a sad lullaby Tales of old thrown out, prose and poetry despised Pens not wielded, ink dries, the cosmo...

In Deep Waters

Image
Unruffled surface of calm perfection Unspoken turmoil beneath Tormented abyss of denied expectation Springs of doubt boil underneath Drops of thoughts muddle the foundation Waves of questions unasked An undercurrent of veiled agitation A slow erosion of trust masked Tide upon tide of tacit frustration Ebbs and flows with a forlorn tune Musings and reveries desire liberation A tsunami of emotions in a cocoon Truth trapped in a dam of isolation Puddles of lies strewn on silt A gulf widened by withheld affirmation A chasm concealed by guilt Streams of disquiet with each conversation Buoyed by a shroud of indifference Ardor floats on hope and explanation Sink at the silence of ignorance Deep waters plead for translation Where words are drowned by sediment The shallows may be a picture of sedation But the depths silently bellows, desperate for help

Signs

Image
A sinking feeling A nagging thought A scream wanting to come out A persistent prodding A relentless nudge What are they about? Glazed eyes Quiet sighs A slight crinkling of the nose Disappointed looks Forehead furrows Was that a sneer? Who knows? A thick silence A meaningful pause Questions without answers Signposts and lights Dots and lines Was that a code? Who cares?

Randomly You

Image
You go nowhere but move fast Spinning mildly you won't last Though attractive, quite a bore Round and round and nothing more You don't back down, not a chance Overcoming circumstance Quite aggressive and intense Often making not much sense You concur with all that's said Always nodding with your head One for all, for unity But then think of where you'll be You are languid now and then Eager for the where and when You're the bedrock for this thirst And at other times the worst You're the limit they can't pass You're a boundary that lasts Separating time from tide Marking where all should abide You are signal to a change Dropping old things isn't strange Little cooler but still warm Letting go has been your norm You're commanding to the eye All, it seems, intensifies Insulating, tough, and cool You're a fighter, not a fool You are random, you're aligned Each a trai...

44 Things That Make You Feel Good

Image
A warm fireplace. The smell of coffee A well-written story The last day of work before a vacation When you walk in through a door someone held open Sunrises and sunsets Warming your hands in someone's coat pockets Early morning cuddles Walking in the rain and jumping into puddles When someones says, "That's why I like you" Chooses something good for you From the overwhelming restaurant menu And hands you a wet tissue when you get ice cream all over you Seeing blue lakes and fluffy clouds And snow-capped mountains down a hillside Someone who asks "Would you like some medicine to help with your cold?" Dreaming of traveling around the world Laughing out loud at a hilarious joke Making a little kid laugh when you pretend you're a frog and croak Stopping in the middle of nowhere to look for the Milky Way Making someone's day A kind word from a random person on the street An ice cream treat Seeing a baby walk for the f...

Isolation is Reservation

Image
It's cold and dim and no one really sees All that transpires inside this sphere Just a little patience and mercy, please While one deals with these anxious fears Some things flicker here and there But none too bright to rouse satiation These eyes have looked almost everywhere But none yet meets expectation Perpetually embracing an elusive muse Entangled in pursuit of distant dreams Hope fatigued but still in use Pushing forth through turgid streams Swirls of postulations hardly condense Indefinitely paused but intentionally ceased Someday when comes the recompense All tensions will be calmed, all fussing eased Peaks and valleys, highs and lows Nothing is stagnant, as everything moves Forward and onward: that's always the flow Survive then thrive, as all this will prove For now belief and stand reiterate Let seeing eye not be the only guide On truth and good and love meditate Stay on...

Chocolate

Image
If you're eagle-eyed you're sure to notice From miles away with certainty There's no way that you'd be fooled by all this You've unwrapped all the mystery You see a player on top of his game Go scoff at all the fun he's had His method besmirches every man's name You just want to bury this cad Perhaps he's one who's nestled in her arms Feigning much sensitivity She is obviously smitten by his charms So sly, smooth, so velvety You say, "Hey, pal! I know what you're doing! Heartbreaker's what you really are! To you she's just fiery pleasure brewing To her she's a fragile, bright star!" Another one on the horizon far Looks like he's running, on the take Maybe he left a trail of lover scars You should tell him to have a break Tell this dude to quit while he is ahead Before the bitter overflows Or the dark comes and chokes the sweet instead What that looks like, only...

Truth

Image
Precipice Honesty is overrated they say Some truths you hide and don't relay But someday all will be revealed anyway Why not now? Why delay? Feelings you used to have All you have lost, all those you love Confessing them is a salve Secrets cause hearts to halve Confusion ensues each time you cower Deceit and lies don't give them power Your eyes, your smile, your voice, you falter A pause, a sigh, you blow your cover On the edge of a precipice you jump off Hoping the half-truths on your back are enough To break your fall? That'll be tough! The ground is unforgiving, rough So tell the truth, don't glaze it over Don't pretend all's never been better It may hurt, cause things to flutter Let it be heard now, not never

To All The Girls In Love Before

Image
There is a need to state a few things more For a host of feelings and musings sore I'll say them soberly though not quite covertly I'm glad that we met until you tried to subvert me Ms. Understand, we couldn't see eye to eye My hands extended kindness but you went for a lie Not all affinities are subterfuge for some huge thing Now all's been drowned by a deluge of fawning Ms. Communicate, please think before you speak Your voice is too loud but your argument is weak The goodwill you've painstakingly tried to convey Came off rather sour as with all else you say Ms. Guided, you should have really thought first Look before you leap, or else get into more hurt No one made you a promise or gave you their heart You rolled the dice, missed a ladder, slid back to the start Ms. Interpret, you read me all wrong I had no secret agenda, but your game was strong Insisted there was something in my actions and words But really to ...
