The Dam

The dam was strong
Made of concrete enforced with iron
A great many rains have poured
A deluge of waters
But it stood sturdy and sure
Decades of storms and high winds
It endured

Yet a gentle trickle
A slow flow of calm water
Drops from a soothing river
Made way to its center
The floodgates opened
And the river rushed forth
But not with a brute force the dam feared
But with a refreshing touch
Filled the basin with newness
A good change it didn't count on
